I started KunsHuis in my mom’s dining room with a laptop (which I bought with almost 2 years of savings) and pay-as-you-go internet - that was back in April 2010. A month later, in May 2010, I got married, and KunsHuis officially started in my husband’s family home, that we would eventually own.

Working for yourself is a blessing, it has challenges, and if you are a solo-preneur, it can be isolating. I have gone through ups and downs in navigating my desired way of working.

What is the best advice you ever have been given?
Mine came from my dad: "Go and learn something, where you can work for yourself - do not be dependent on anyone else."

And that is what I did. I followed my God-given talent of being creative and went to study design. I studied Multi-media for three years; in that time, I specialised in 2D design.

 I didn't know about the upcoming marriage proposal, just that he wants us to go on a road trip to his sister and maybe spend a night at a lodge on our way - he wanted to ask me on the day of our six month anniversary. However, I was still at the advertising agency and couldn't get leave. 

My husband wanted to ask me to marry him after two months of being together. I asked him: What was your longest relationship, and he said six months.

Money, poaching, government and design

My husband was talking this morning about the credit rating of Namibia, and afterwards, all I wanted to do was grab my latest issue of VISI magazine! It hit me today that the design industry is at it's most important in fragile times - from governments, the value of money, poaching and pressing other life altering moments - design brings beauty.
